Activities in the area
'La Brochardiere'
is just outside Camarsac, a village with the Chateau de Camarsac built by the
Prince Noir, an old church, a post office and sports ground including tennis courts.
There are lots of possible excursions throughout woodlands and vineyards. From
there, you can visit numerous "Chateaux" and indulge in tasting and
buying their excellent local wines.
There are excellent restaurants in villages nearby. 'La Brochardiere' is the perfect location from which to explore the Aquitaine, Landes, Dordogne and Perigord areas.
It is 5 minutes drive to Creon, a pretty 18th century town with shops, restaurants, cinema and weekly market. Creon is a cyclo-tourism and horse riding centre.
St. Emilion and
Bordeaux are 15-20 minutes drive from Camarsac. Both towns are swarming with things
to see and do and endless choices of restaurants.
In September, the Ban des Vendanges de St-Emilion marks the beginning of the grape-picking season with wine tasting and guided tours through the town. St. Emilion, home of one of the most famous wines, is in the lovely valley of the Dordogne River, with houses overlooking the river and narrow cobbled streets. The roman ruins and medieval constructions can be visited.
Since the 18th century, the city of Bordeaux, spread out along the western side of the River Garonne, has assumed a majestic air and prided itself on an elegance which it has never lost. Rich in history, culture, arts, music, legendary wines and cuisine, Bordeaux is a vibrant centre of trade, industry, business and numerous art colleges, international schools and universities. Especially attractive is the 18th century historical centre between the place de la Comédie, the imposing river bank, the cathedral and the vast open square of the esplanade des Quinconces. The Jardin Public, contains remains of Bordeaux's Roman past. The weekly flea market must not be missed. Bordeaux is packed with numerous shops and restaurants. Fresh seafood features prominently on many a Bordelais menu. The best place to look for restaurants is around the place du Parlement and place St-Pierre, where something is to be found to please all tastes and budgets. In recent summers, guinguettes - open-air riverside stalls selling shrimps, king prawns and other seafood snacks - have proved a huge success. They set up along the quai des Chartrons.

Arcachon
For those seeking the sea, the nearest sea resorts are 50 minutes drive from Camarsac.
Arcachon is the oldest resort on the Côte d'Argent. The beaches of white
sand are magnificent and its central jetties, Thiers and Eyrac, are busy with
boats going off on an array of cruises to places like the Île aux Oiseaux
and the Dune de Pyla, the highest sand dune in Europe. The town itself is a sprawl
of villas great and small. The most exclusive area is the ville d'hiver (winter
town), whose wide shady streets are full of fanciful Second Empire mansions overlooking
the seaside ville d'été (summer town). Well worth a wander, Arcachon
can also be reached by a forty-minute train ride from Bordeaux, across the flat,
sandy pine forest bordering the Landes.
