16 Day Itinerary
Delhi - Ranthambore - Bharatpur - Agra - Bandhavgarh - Kanha
A superb opportunity to visit some of the main nature reserves in India – Ranthambore’s tigers; Bharatpur, an ornithologist’s delight; Bandhavgarh, a key Tiger Project reserve; and Kanha, an outstanding park that inspired Kipling. Plus an unforgettable visit to the Taj Mahal. The combination of India’s three premier national parks makes the probability of one or more tiger sightings extremely high.
Day 01: London to Delhi
Depart London Heathrow on your overnight flight to Delhi.
Day 02: Arrive Delhi
Arrive Delhi. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 03: Delhi
Full day guided tour the city, The tour will include major land marks of Old and New Delhi, The sights include Humayun’s Tomb, The Red Fort, Qutab Minar and India Gate. Overnight stay.
Day 04: Delhi to Ranthambore by Train
Morning train to Sawai Madhopur. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Afternoon game safari at Ranthambore National Park, one of the main Project Tiger reserves. This spectacular setting is the home to hundreds of species of birds, mammals and reptiles. Overnight stay.
Day 05: Ranthambore
The diversity of terrain – hills, boulder-strewn plateau, lakes and forests provide a magnificent backdrop for the wildlife population. A full day’s game safari gives the opportunity to see some of the 25 species of wild life including tigers, leopards and sloth bears. This park is a nature lover’s paradise.
Day 06: Ranthambore to Bharatpur by Train
A farewell dawn game viewing. This afternoon, depart by train to Bharatpur. Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 07: Bharatpur to Agra by road 51 Kms / 1 Hr 30 Mins Approx
An early start to watch the birds-quite spectacular when they rise from their roosts into the azure sky. This wetland sanctuary has been declared a World Heritage site and is home to over 380 species of resident and migrant birds – including rare Siberian crane, side by side with storks and heron. Watch out for enormous python idly basking in the Sun. Afternoon drive to Agra stopping en route at Fatehpur Sikri, the imposing deserted city built by Akbar. Overnight stay.
Day 08: Agra to Bandhavgarh by and Overnight Train
Unforgettable morning visit to the Taj Mahal, dedicated to eternal love. Also visit the Red Fort – a World Heritage site – and tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah. Late afternoon transfer to railway station for an overnight train journey to Bandhavgarh.
Day 09: Bandhavgarh
Morning arrival at Umaria railway station and drive to Bandhavgarh National Park. Overnight at the Resort.
Day 10: Bandhavgarh
Morning and afternoon jeep safaris. Bandhavgarh is considered to be one of the premier parks for tiger grassy swamps and forested valleys provide the perfect camouflage for this predatory beast. Overnight stay.
Day 11: Bandhavgarh
Morning and afternoon safaris by jeeps. The park was a former hunting reserve of the Maharaja of Rewa – today, a sanctuary, with more than 35 tigers roaming the jungle. Overnight stay.
Day 12: Bandhavgarh to Kanha by road 250 Kms / 06 Hrs Approx
Drive to Kanha National Park. Famously known as Kipling Country and a dedicated Tiger Reserve. Kanha and the nearby forests were the setting for Rudyard Kipling’s delightful Jungle Book. Imagine the mighty Sher Khan prowling close by as you watch and wait, secreted in your ‘hide’! Kanha is India’s outstanding National Park with about 30 species of mammals and 240 species of birds. Overnight at resort.
Day 13: Kanha
Morning and afternoon game viewing. The variety of habitat gives rise to a wonderful mix of animals to spot – the grassland plateau is home to the Gaur (Indian Bison) and four-horned Antelope whilst in dense slumps of forest shy jungle cat and civet roam. Here Project Tiger is actively pursuing conservation projects in the park, increasing the chance to see tigers. Overnight stay.
Day 14: Kanha
Another day of game safaris looking for sloth bears, swamp deer, bison and the elusive leopard. Feel the echoes of Kipling’s books as you drive through the lightly wooded grassland where wolves and dhole lie in wait.
Day 15: Kanha to Delhi by an overnight Train
A farewell morning safari before driving to Jabalpur railway station to catch the overnight train to Delhi.
Day 16: Delhi to London
Early morning arrival in Delhi. Transfer to airport for onward journey.
